spension Bridge

The most iconic spot in Wonju is definitely the Sogeumsan Suspension Bridge.
Known as one of the longest pedestrian bridges in Korea, it offers thrilling views as you look down at the valley beneath your feet. On a clear day, you’ll be greeted with breathtaking scenery of the Namhan River and lush green mountains. If you continue along the trail, you can hike up to the peak of Sogeumsan for an even more rewarding panoramic view.

2. Museum SAN

Next, I visited Museum SAN, a must-see art destination in Wonju.
Designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, the museum harmonizes nature, architecture, and art. Inside, you’ll find fascinating modern art exhibitions where light and shadow play a big role, while the outdoor sculpture garden offers a peaceful space to walk and take photos. It’s truly a paradise for art lovers and photographers alike.

3. Gangwon Gamyeong

Wonju was once the administrative center of Gangwon Province during the Joseon Dynasty, so history is deeply rooted here.
At Gangwon Gamyeong, you can explore beautifully restored traditional buildings and gardens. It’s a great spot to experience Korea’s past, and at night, the soft lighting makes the place feel calm and atmospheric.

4. Wonju Café Scene

Of course, no trip is complete without café hopping. Wonju is gaining popularity for its unique and cozy cafés.
Near the central market and around the Ganhyeon area, you’ll find cafés with scenic views and delicious desserts. I enjoyed a cup of coffee at a rooftop café overlooking the Namhan River—it was the perfect way to relax after exploring.

5. Local Delicacies

Food is always the highlight of any trip!
Wonju is famous for chueotang (loach soup), gondeure-bap (thistle rice), and makguksu (buckwheat noodles).
I personally loved the gondeure-bap—it was simple, healthy, and full of flavor, just like a true Gangwon-do specialty.

Final Thoughts

Wonju is a city where you can enjoy thrilling nature, inspiring art, deep history, and delicious food—all in one trip.
It’s close to Seoul but feels refreshingly different, making it a perfect weekend getaway. Highly recommended!

Hello everyone! Today, I’d like to introduce Gunpo, a small city in Gyeonggi-do that’s perfect for a short getaway from Seoul. Although it’s not a big tourist city, Gunpo is full of charm with its mountains, lakes, cultural spots, and peaceful atmosphere.

Getting to Gunpo

Gunpo is easily accessible by subway (Line 1 and Line 4). It takes only about 40 minutes from Seoul, which makes it an ideal spot for a weekend trip or even a day trip.

Day 1 – Healing in Nature

Gunpo Azalea Hill
This is the city’s most famous attraction! Every spring, the hill bursts into a sea of pink azalea flowers. During the Azalea Festival, the area comes alive with performances, food stalls, and cultural events.

Surisan Provincial Park
A great hiking and walking spot. The trails are easy enough for beginners and families, and the view from the top offers a refreshing panorama of Gunpo.

Banwol Lake
A quiet lakeside area with walking trails, perfect for a peaceful stroll. There are cozy cafés around the lake, so you can relax with a cup of coffee while enjoying the scenery.

Day 2 – Culture and History

Gunpo Arts Center
This cultural hub hosts concerts, plays, and exhibitions. If you visit on the weekend, you may catch a classical music performance or an art show.

Dr. Lee Ho-Wang Memorial Hall
A museum honoring one of Korea’s most renowned virus researchers. It’s a meaningful place to learn about science and history together.

Geumjeong-dong Forest Village
A traditional village with old trees and houses, where the past and present coexist. Walking here feels like stepping back in time.

Gunpo’s Food Scene

Near Surisan, you’ll find restaurants serving traditional Korean set meals and mountain vegetable bibimbap. Around Azalea Hill, you can enjoy casual eats like street food, tteokbokki, and trendy cafés.

Final Thoughts

Gunpo may not be a flashy tourist destination, but it’s a wonderful city where nature and culture blend together. It’s a great place to take a slow walk, enjoy seasonal flowers, and recharge away from the city hustle. I’d love to visit again during the Azalea Festival to experience Gunpo at its most vibrant!

Day 1 – Starting the Journey at Jinju Fortress

Upon arriving in Jinju, the first stop I recommend is Jinju Fortress. This historic site played a crucial role during the Imjin War in the Joseon Dynasty.
Along the Nam River, the fortress walls stretch with breathtaking views. Inside, you’ll find Chokseokru Pavilion, the Statue of General Kim Si-min, and the National Jinju Museum, where you can explore the city’s rich history and culture.

Day 2 – A Leisurely Stroll Along the Nam River

Start your morning with a walk along the Nam River Promenade. In spring, cherry blossoms line the path, and in autumn, the lights from the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Lantern Festival create a magical atmosphere.
For lunch, try Jinju-style cold noodles (Jinju Naengmyeon) or Jinju Bibimbap—dishes that are both flavorful and refreshing.

In the afternoon, visit Jinju Central Market to enjoy traditional street food, and then relax at a riverside café while gazing at the peaceful water.

Day 3 – Nature Meets Culture

On your last day, immerse yourself in nature at the Gyeongsangnam-do Arboretum or Wolasan Woodland.
Walking along the forest trails, you’ll discover that Jinju is not just a city of history but also a place where nature flourishes.

Travel Tips

With its scenic ocean views, cozy villages, and calming atmosphere, Namhae truly felt like a place where time slows down.

Let me take you along on my journey!

Day 1 – The Road to Namhae & Daraengi Village

It took about 5 hours by car from Seoul to Namhae. Although the drive was a bit long, the stunning view of the ocean that greeted us upon arrival made it all worth it.

First Stop: Daraengi Village

One of Namhae’s most iconic spots, Daraengi Village, is known for its terraced rice fields overlooking the sea. The contrast between the lush green fields and the deep blue ocean created a picture-perfect scene.
There were also small galleries and cozy cafés scattered around the village, making it a great place to take a stroll and relax.

Day 2 – Namhae Bridge & German Village

After a peaceful morning walk by the ocean, we headed to Namhae Bridge. Standing on the bridge, we could see the endless horizon and feel the cool sea breeze — it was the perfect photo spot!

German Village

Next up was the German Village, where you can feel like you’ve stepped into a European town. Colorful houses, wide lawns, and authentic German beer and sausages added to the charm.
We also visited the Exhibition Hall of the Dispatched Nurses, which tells the touching story of Korean nurses who went to Germany in the 1960s and 70s.

Food is always a highlight of any trip!

Anchovy Ssambap: A local specialty where you wrap savory anchovy stew in fresh vegetables. It’s a must-try dish!

Clam Kalguksu (Noodle Soup): Light, savory, and filled with the taste of the ocean.

Yuja (Citrus) Beer: A refreshing craft beer infused with Namhae’s famous yuja. Sweet, tangy, and perfect for a hot day.

We stayed at an ocean-view pension-style guesthouse, where we could see the sea right from our window. Waking up to the sound of waves and the morning sunlight made every moment feel like a dream.

Travel Tips

Car Recommended: Public transport is limited in Namhae. Driving (or renting a car) will give you the freedom to explore comfortably.

Relaxed Itinerary: Namhae is best enjoyed slowly. Don’t rush — let the peaceful vibes guide your pace.

Sunset Café: Watching the sun set over the ocean with a warm cup of coffee… it’s the perfect way to end the day.

Final Thoughts

Namhae may not be as flashy as big cities, but it offers something even more valuable: peace of mind. It’s the kind of place where you can breathe deeply, look at the sea, and reconnect with yourself.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the noise of everyday life, consider gifting yourself a quiet, heartwarming trip to Namhae.

Thank you for reading, and I hope the warm breeze of Namhae finds its way to you too

Tip
